Letter from the Secretary General

Dear participants,

It is with great pride and honor that I invite you all as the Secretary General to the 16th Oasis International School Model United Nations Conference that will be held on our campus of the Oasis International School, Cairo, Egypt in October of this year 2023. OISMUN is the first conference of its kind. Indeed, our conference is the first bilingual conference in Egypt held in French and English. OISMUN is also affiliated with The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) which is one of the most prestigious MUN conferences. OISMUN is also the first eco-friendly conference in Egypt which has given us the opportunity to receive a major affiliation with MUN Impact in 2021. Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations itself.

OISMUN will be hosted in October 2023 and it is expected to have participants from various schools and universities from all over the world. The conference will provide a platform for students to engage in debates, negotiations, and discussions of various global issues.

For the past 15 years, team members have worked hard to come up with an effective annual theme for the conference to which all committees may respond and find answers to the key challenges and problems our world is facing. In this context, this year’s topic is, “Conciliate global unrest by putting forth a sustainable initiative for international harmony and prosperity, advocating for humanitarian and environmental welfare.”

Hence, the 16th OISMUN will be simulating 8 English committees; The International Court of Justice, The General Assembly of the United Nations, The Security Council, The Human Rights Council, The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes, The Commission of the Status of Women, The Economic and Social Council and this year’s newest addition The United Nations Environment Assembly. Delegates will also have the opportunity to participate in 3 French committees; Le Conseil de Sécurité, Le Conseil des Droits de l’Homme and Le Haut Commissaire des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés.

OISMUN is giving the opportunity for younger delegates to debate in two Junior Committees believing that they are the future of the world. These committees follow the same procedures as the regular committees and are a great chance for students between the ages of 11 and 13 to debate paramount issues. Our Junior Committees are Le Conseil de Sécurité Junior and The General Assembly Junior Committee.

Your participation in this conference will be an excellent opportunity for you to develop your skills in public speaking, negotiation, and diplomacy. Not only will you get to engage with other students from different backgrounds and cultures, but you will also have the chance to learn from experienced professionals in the field.

In case of any inquiries, do not hesitate to contact me at secretary-general@oasisdemaadi.com.

On behalf of the entire OISMUN team, I look forward to welcoming you in October in Cairo!

Best Regards,

Sarah C. Cornec

Secretary General
