Throughout thousands of years, Egypt has been considered home to civilisation. This attribute comes predominantly from the Pharaohs who were the founders of the very first state in the world. Egypt is home to the longest river in the world, the Nile, giving it life from the north all the way to the south. The cultural heritage of Egypt does not just end with the Pharaohs, numerous civilisations have lived in Egypt such as the Greeks, the Romans, the Fatimids, the Mamluks and the Ottomans. The capital of the Arab Republic of Egypt is the city of Cairo. It is known for its antiquities and everlasting history and was given the most beautiful city award in 1940. Cairo is nicknamed as “ the Paris of the Nile” for its unique French styled architecture of downtown Cairo. Not only would you spot ancient Egyptian architecture in Cairo, you can see Italian, Islamic, Coptic and Greek architecture all over the City.

Oasis International School

The Oasis International School was founded in 1994 with a goal of conjugating excellence and fulfillment throughout a French education deeply rooted in the Egyptian culture, all in supporting an international vision. To achieve the aforementioned goals The Oasis international school taught the Egyptian national programme for 12 years. In 2004 the Oasis international School became the first school in the world to offer the three IB programmes in French : The Primary years Programme (PYP), The Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP) making the school the very first school to teach all 4 IB programs in French since October 2015 with the authorization of the professional orientation program (POP).

The official language of instruction is French. Arabic which is the mother language of most students and English which is taught as a second language. However the English programme offered in our establishment is well known for it’s quality. In the Diploma programme, there is also the possiblity to choose to learn Spanish.

History of OISMUN

The Oasis International School has been taking part in MUN conferences since 2006. In 2008, the school organised its first MUN conference, which was a simulation of four committees in both French and English. In 2012, the students of the class of 2012 took in charge of the organization. In 2013, the General Assembly was inaugurated as an OISMUN organ. In 2015, the Crisis Committee was introduced to OISMUN, creating crisis simulations to enhance delegate’s critical thinking skills. OISMUN 8 brought OISMUN to a new level with the introduction of the OISMUN site, affiliation with The Hague MOdel United Nations (THIMUN) and the introduction of the sub-commission of the Economic and Social on the Status of Women and the Sub-commission of the Economic and Social Council on Science and Technology. OISMUN 9 also saw the first joint ECOSOC session, a simulation of the G20 summit, and a “Mini-conference” for journalists.
